Reigning 49er FX world champions Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz began their Paris 2024 preparations with victory in the Olympic Test Event in Marseille.

The Dutchwomen were in fine form at the southern city's Marina, which is also due to hold sailing competitions at next year's Games, with four wins from 12 races.

A second-place finish in the medal race, which is worth double, kept their score down to 47 points as they used their discard on a 21st-place effort on the fourth race.

Brazilians Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze claimed the silver medal but were a long way away from top spot, with 30 points separating them from the leaders.

Sweden's Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler rounded out the top three with a score of 81.

They started poorly with a 13th-place result in the opener but three consecutive wins followed to set up their podium charge.

"We're super happy," said van Aanholt.

"We went into it very well but you always want to end it well and we certainly did that so we are two very happy girls."

Further Dutch success followed straight after in the final of the 49er class with Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken clinching gold.

Going into the final race all they needed to do to seal gold was not get disqualified but they finished with a flourish by winning the medal race.

The excitement continued in the iQFOIL events as Nicolas Goyard delivered men's gold for the host nation while Israeli Sharon Kantor prevailed in the women's competition.

Italy's Gigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei had French team boat builders to thank for their victory in the Nacra 17 after a crash almost ended their hopes of victory.

The boat was fixed in time for the final race where they leapfrogged Finland's Sinem Kurtbay and Akseli Keskinen to take gold by five points.

In the ILCA 7 class, Australian Olympic champion Matt Wearn snatched gold from under the nose of Britain's Micky Beckett.

France's medal tally then increased thanks to a Camille Lecointre and Jérémie Mion triumph in the 470 event.

ILCA 6 glory went the way of Dutchwoman Marit Bouwmeester who took the lead early on and never let go of it.

Bastille day saw a double delight for the French as Axel Mazella and Lauriane Nolot prevailed in the men's and women's Formula Kite contests, respectively.
