FIFA World Cup winner Thierry Henry has been named as coach of the French men's team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The 46-year-old former Arsenal Football Club striker who also won the Euro 2000, will be replacing Sylvain Ripoll for the home Games.

"The Executive Committee of the FFF has appointed former international Thierry Henry as coach of the France Espoirs team on Monday August 21," the France Football Federation said in a statement.

"The French Football Federation is pleased to announce the appointment of Thierry Henry as coach of the France Espoirs team, for a period of two years, until 2025.

"Gérald Baticle will join Thierry Henry's staff in as an assistant coach."

Ripoll, who was the coach of the youth side since 2017, was sacked earlier this month following a poor showing at the UEFA U21 European Championship.

Henry, meanwhile, is returning to management after his stint with the Belgium national team at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

He was also part of the coaching staff for Belgium when they finished third at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

His previous coaching experience include a three-month spell with Ligue 1 club AS Monaco during the 2018-19 season.

He also stepped down as coach of Major League Soccer team Montreal Impact in 2021 after over a year.

The former FC Barcelona star is now mostly seen as a UEFA Champions League pundit on CBS Sports.

He has scored 51 times for France in 123 games.

Henry's first game as coach will be a friendly against Denmark on September 7, followed by a Euro 2025 qualifier against Slovenia.
