A current European Games bronze medallist was among the winners at the Balkan Karate Championships for seniors and veterans held at Tirana.

Georgia-Archontia Xenos of Greece triumphed in the Female Kata category, having won European Games bronze in the same discipline in Krakow earlier this year.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Nejra Sipovic was the victor in the Female Kumite under-55 kilograms category, with Sipovic the current junior European champion in the discipline.

Male winners included Montenegro’s Nikola Malovic in the Male Kumite under-84kg category, and Djorde Tesanovic of Serbia in the Male Kumite +84kg.

On the sidelines of the competition, a meeting of the Balkan Karate Federation Executive Committee took place, with plans for the growth of the organisation among the topics discussed.

The next Balkan Karate Championship, for cadets, juniors and under-21 athletes, is due to take place in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana from November 17 to 19.
