Laso produced a superb second run which earned her 83.18 points at The Spot Skatepark in Ostia, the highest score of the 28 athletes who progressed to the quarter-finals.

Only 27 were due to reach the next stage joining the top five in the Olympic World Skateboarding (OWS) Rankings, but an extra place was created because Britain's defending champion and Olympic bronze medallist Sky Brown withdrew with an ankle injury.

Katelyn West of the United States was the main beneficiary, placing 28^th with 69.14 on her second run to progress.

She was one of eight American athletes who ranked in the top 28.

Brazil's Raicca Ventura was second in qualifying with 81.75, and Finland's Heili Sirvio third with 78.35.

Jordan Santana of the US topped the scoring in the first runs with 77.39, which was enough to send her through in fourth place.

Yndiara Asp of Brazil, who finished eighth on skateboarding's Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, was among the high-profile athletes eliminated in qualifying, just missing out with 68.00 in 29^th place.

Japan's Olympic silver medallist Kokona Hiraki, Hinano Kusaki and Olympic champion Sakura Yosozumi along with Australia's Ruby Trew are automatically into the quarter-finals through the OWS Rankings.

Men's and women's quarter-finals are due to be held tomorrow at the WST Park World Championships, followed by semi-finals on Saturday (October 7) and final on Sunday (October 8).

The World Championships provides a key opportunity to earn ranking points for the Paris 2024 Olympics, with the qualification period open until June next year.

Twenty Olympic qualifying places are available in both men's and women's park events through the OWS rankings.
