Peron scooped $5,000 (£4,000/€4,700) in prize money after putting in a dominant performance that saw him beat Britain's second place finisher Arthur Farley by 17 points.

Tim Carpentier won bronze for France, a further three points adrift, after winning the Olympic Esports Series in Singapore in June.

An error saw Peron finish last in the second race of the day but he recovered to lead by seven points at the halfway stage.

His success comes after two previous attempts at winning the eSailing world title.

"It feels good after two failures," he said.

"I'm super happy for my friend Pepito [Carpentier] and Arthur finishing second a second time. 

"He's so good he will probably make it another year."

Farley is battling against leukaemia and travelled to Trieste after undergoing a bone marrow biopsy earlier in the week.

"It's been a really hard seven months and it's been a big step coming here but I've really enjoyed it," he said.

"I'm just really frustrated that I sailed nowhere near my ability. 

"I just felt like I beat myself. 

"It's mixed feelings really, as the last race was really close to get second, so I'm happy overall."
