Hungary have named their kumite team for the upcoming Karate World Championships in Budapest where they will be aiming for home success.

A total of 22 athletes have been selected to represent the host nation in kumite competition from October 24 to 29 at the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena.

Home hopes are set to rest on the shoulders of Gábor Hárspataki, a bronze medallist in the men’s 75 kilograms category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Minsk 2019 European Games.

Yves Martial Tadissi, a silver medallist in the men’s 67kg division at the Linz 2016 World Championships and Birmingham 2022 World Games, is also in the team along with Dániel György who became the first Hungarian to win European gold when winning the men’s 84kg title.

Hárspataki, Tadissi and György will be joined by the likes of András Kiss, Kapdebo Botond, Réka Molnár, Dalma Jakubovics, Aleksandra Ilankovic, Dorottya Pap and Dóra Fleischer.

Botos Botond, Nichols Dávid and Boussebaa Aicha have been added for the team competitions.

Around 700 athletes from 79 countries have confirmed their participation for the World Karate Championships.

The event is set to be the last under the current format before the World Team Championships and World Individual Championships will be held in alternate years.

Budapest 2023 is due to act as a qualifier for the 2024 World Team Championships, set to be held in Pamplona.
