The Fair Play Award is set to be presented at the Pan and Parapan American Games for the first time at Santiago 2023.

The Chilean Olympic Committee (COCh) and Panathlon Chile are set to combine to decide on the winners.

The aim of the initiative is to reward acts of outstanding friendship, solidarity, altruism, or generosity at Santiago 2023.

"The agreement, which was concluded by the head of the COCh, Miguel Ángel Mujica, and the President of Panathlon Chile, Fernando Soto Sepúlveda, seeks to expose to the community the most outstanding actions of both Games, which must be demonstrated with a testimony and/or image that will be evaluated by the two sports bodies," Santiago 2023 announced in a statement.

"Photojournalists, cameramen and journalists accredited in Santiago 2023 may participate in these testimonies, sending the application to the [email protected] email."

Fair Play Awards are featured at several sporting events, including the most recent Summer and Winter Olympic Games at Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022, respectively.

The Fair Play award winners at Tokyo 2020 were all of the finalists in the women's park skateboarding event, for lifting fellow skater Misugu Okamoto of Japan after a fall.

The closing date for applications for the Pan American Games is November 5 before the Parapan American Games deadline on November 26.

"The spirit of Panathlon International is to stimulate activities towards the education of youth, the defence and enhancement of Fair Play as well as the fight against doping, racism, violence and other ethical actions," the Santiago 2023 statement said.

"Along with this, it was recognised by the International Olympic Committee  as a meritorious association in favour of cultural and ethical activities in favour of Olympism."

The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games are currently underway, following the Opening Ceremony on October 20, and are due to end on November 5.

The Parapan American Games are then scheduled to take place from November 17 to 26.

It is the first time that Chile has hosted the events in their history.
