The esports hockey test event took place at Glasgow National Hockey Centre and saw youngsters participate in esports, hockey and activities designed to enhance their personal development.

After initially playing Rocket League, a video game described as "football, but with rocket-powered cars", participants aimed to match their electronic goalscoring exploits in a hockey game.

Following their success, Scottish Hockey says it hopes to use the model of the test event, to hold esports camps next year.

Reflecting on the test event, Scottish Hockey chief executive Barry Cawte said: "I’m absolutely delighted by the success of this test event, and to see so many youngsters enjoying hockey, alongside gaming, shows we have a model where more people can access the sport.

"We’re trying to do something innovative to reach a more diverse audience for the sport, and esports is a unique and creative way to do this.

"The partnerships we’ve built with Esport Scotland and The Brave Jnr are very exciting, and this test event is just the beginning of the journey."

Through the partnerships with Esport Scotland, the country’s officially registered professional esports competition, and The Brave Jnr, a youth esports organisation based in Scotland, there are plans to create an esports hub in the centre of Glasgow, at an expected cost of £20,000 ($24,240/€22,940).
