Canelo trashes Munguía and faces De la Hoya three days before Las Vegas clash. 'X'#CaneloMunguia

The Mexican showdown on Saturday 4 May is heating up. Canelo predicted a "decisive" victory over Munguía in a press conference on Wednesday. He also warned his former promoter, Golden Boy, against "robbing boxers". On Sunday, Canelo will put his four belts on the line at the MGM in Las Vegas.

Canelo has successfully defended his WBO (World Boxing Organisation), WBA (World Boxing Association), WBC (World Boxing Council) and IBF (International Boxing Federation) belts. On Sunday, he will put them all on the line against fellow countryman Jaime Munguía, who remains unbeaten in 43 career fights, 34 of them by knockout. Canelo won his last fight against Jermell Charlo. He has 60 wins (39 by knockout), 2 draws and 2 defeats.

Boxing has been in the headlines a lot lately. The Ryan García vs. Haney fight and Ryan García's subsequent show have been in the spotlight lately. Tyson Fury vs. Usyk is another fight that has been in the news. It's set to take place in Saudi Arabia on the 18th of May. In Saudi Arabia, where Joshua defeated Ngamnou, Tyson and Usyk are already starting to get buzzing.

The Mexican showdown is highly anticipated. The MGM in Las Vegas will be at its best. Everything is in place, but as expected, sparks flew during Wednesday's press conference. Canelo took on his former promoter Óscar de la Hoya, with whom he worked for ten years. He also played down his opponent, Jaime Munguía, predicting a "decisive" victory next Sunday.

Canelo and Munguía, who is six years his junior, will fight for the 168-pound (76.2kg) super middleweight title in Las Vegas, Nevada. "I feel better than ever and I'm ready to fight (...) I'm happy to present this fight between two Mexicans fighting for the first time for the four titles," said 'Canelo' at the press conference held at the MGM Grand Hotel Casino in the gambling capital.

Everything seemed to be going well, but the best was yet to come. The 33-year-old boxer from Guadalajara (west of Mexico) once again expressed his respect for the 27-year-old challenger, but was confident of his greater "experience and talent" to defeat his compatriot for the first time since his victory over Julio César Chávez Jr. in 2017. It has been many years since he last fought. But his return has been eagerly awaited by his fans.

"Of course he has power. He's a good boxer, I like his style. (...) I don't know if he's younger or older than me. But I'm Canelo and I don't care," he said. "We're going to win decisively, that's what we're here for. Let everyone enjoy it and let it be a Mexican celebration," concluded Álvarez of the fight, which takes place during the Mexican Cinco de Mayo festivities.

On the other side of the table, Munguía played down his lack of presence on the big stage, insisting that his respect for the current idol of Mexican boxing "ends inside the ring.”

The boxer from Tijuana insisted, "I don't have experience with big names, but what I have and where I am, I've earned through hard work. "I like the fact that he comes with the mentality of beating me and knocking me out, but I'll go with the same mentality.”

A clash of two different styles. Canelo is a technically gifted boxer. He is very good with both hands and has the ability to control the fight. He is patient and regulates his punches. Munguía, on the other hand, is a natural knockout artist with the power to hit hard and defend himself. Despite the odds favouring Canelo, the favourite is expected to face a tough challenge

And just as the protagonists seemed to have finished speaking, the microphone duel arrived.
The atmosphere of respect between the two fighters was shattered by a verbal confrontation on the stage between 'Canelo' and former world champion Oscar de la Hoya. Canelo accused de la Hoya of robbing the boxers he represents.
"De la Hoya, now Munguía's promoter at Golden Boy, said in his speech, "It seems he has trouble remembering who helped him become a true world star.

"I have nothing but respect for Canelo, his record as a fighter speaks for itself. However, in the last few months he has spent more time on insults than he has on the promotion of this fight. "Golden Boy built Canelo Álvarez, period. Respect my name".

It was then that the Mexican boxer interrupted De la Hoya's speech with insults and stood up to confront him as several people intervened between them. The show erupted and he addressed De la Hoya directly. "Don't forget that I came to the United States as Canelo, and you only benefited from my name," the Mexican shouted.

The pair were at it again until their parting of the ways in 2020, much to everyone's surprise.
"All he does is be a scourge in boxing, robbing boxers," he retorted. "You would have robbed me if I hadn't hired my lawyers."
