This year's Cannes Film Festival red carpet will shine even brighter, as the Olympic torch will be among the stars to ascend the famous steps this 21 May, carried by five-time French Paralympic athlete Arnaud Assoumani, Agence France-Presse reported Monday.

"Paris 2024, in agreement with the Cannes city council, will carry the torch to the Festival's red carpet," the famous film competition in the southern French city said in a statement.

In addition, on the night of May 21 the documentary 'Olympiques! La France des Jeux' (Olympic! The France of the Games), directed by Mickaël Gamrasni, will be shown.

According to the president of the Festival and its general delegate, Iris Knobloch and Thierry Frémaux, it will review "a century of participation in the Games that have forever marked our collective memory."



French Olympic and Paralympic champions such as David Douillet, Guy Drut, Jean Galfione, Céline Gerny, Laura Flessel, Laure Manaudou and Cédric Nankin will be present at the Festival.

The Olympic torch will return to Cannes on June 18 amid its journey through France ahead of the opening ceremony of the Games.
