From 29 May to 2 June, San Carlos will host the International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Championship Cycling with five exciting events to be followed live on FISU.tv. 110 athletes from 24 countries will take part in the 7th edition of the event.

San Carlos, known for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant culture, provides the perfect backdrop for the event. The region has a rich history of hosting international sporting competitions and now San Carlos will add to that legacy. From the challenging cycling routes to the warm hospitality of the local community, everyone involved is sure to have an unforgettable experience. 

San Carlos has a tropical climate, which means the weather can be very warm and humid, with average temperatures for a typical day at the end of May ranging from a low of 22°C to a high of 31°C. The event is hosted by the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC), one of the country's five prestigious public universities with five campuses: Cartago, San José, Alajuela, Limón and San Carlos.

The TEC hosted the FISU America Forum in 2020 and the FISU World Forum in 2022, is welcoming now more than 100 athletes to the 2024 FISU World University Championship Cycling in San Carlos in the seventh edition of the event.

There will be three disciplines in the road race, starting with the criterium (29 May, 16:00 CET for the women's race, 17:00 CET for the men's race), both of which will cover 3.5km on the west side of Ciudad Quesada Park.

The individual time trial will take place on 30 May at 16:00 CET, covering 19 km for the men and 17 km for the women. Finally, the road race (31 May) will start at 16:00h CET for the men (112 km) and at 16:20 CET for the women (86 km), both starting and finishing at the TEC Santa Clara. 

There will be two mountain bike disciplines: the Eliminator (XCE) on 1 June (16:00 CET) and the Cross Country (XCO) on 2 June (16:00 CET) as the closing event of these San Carlos 2024 FISU World Cycling Championships. All races will be streamed live on FISU.tv.
