Femke Bol made her outdoor debut in preparation for the Paris Olympics by clinching victory in the 400m hurdles at the Diamond League event in Stockholm last Sunday. Meanwhile, Armand Duplantis came close to surpassing his own pole vault world record.

The Dutch hurdler, who achieved a world record when winning the 400m flat at the world indoors in Glasgow in March, encountered early competition from Jamaica’s Rushell Clayton and Andrenette Knight. They were part of a field that included five athletes from last year’s world championships final in Budapest.

Maintaining her form, she comfortably surged ahead in the home stretch, yet her time of 53.07 seconds fell slightly short of the world-leading time of 52.70 seconds set by her American counterpart, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, on Friday.

Duplantis ensured the enthusiastic home crowd had plenty to celebrate in the men's pole vault event. The Swedish athlete, originally from the US, concluded the competition with a winning height of 6.00m. However, he made three very close attempts at 6.25m, just 1cm higher than his own world record set at the Xiamen Diamond League six weeks prior.

Arguably stealing the spotlight, Algeria's Djamel Sedjati delivered a standout performance at the Swedish capital meet, which was the seventh stop on the 15-meet Diamond League circuit. Sedjati, the 2022 world silver medalist, sprinted to victory in the 800m, clocking in at 1 minute 43.23 seconds, marking the fastest time of the season thus far.

Jamaica's two-time world champion Shericka Jackson delivered a better performance in the 200m following a disappointing outing at the Oslo Diamond League meet on Thursday, where she finished fifth. Jackson recorded a season's best time of 22.69 seconds, although she appeared somewhat strained once more.

Meanwhile, British star Laura Muir exhibited an impressive burst of speed as she surged ahead in the last 200m, securing victory in the women's 1500m with a time of three minutes 57.99 seconds. "To be running what I am now and knowing that I have a couple more months of training before the Olympics is very exciting going forward," said the Olympic silver medalist.

Although not a sanctioned Diamond League event, with no points at stake for athletes striving to qualify for September's final, Jemma Reekie, dominated the women's 800m race, clinching victory in 1 minute and 57.79 seconds. "I know that those 1500m girls are going to make it tough for me so it would be amazing to run away with a medal," the 26-year-old Scot said.

In the women's high jump, Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh secured a convincing win, clearing a best height of 2.00m, surpassing the rest of the field by two jumps. Alison Dos Santos extended his unbeaten streak in the Diamond League to three wins by triumphing in the 400m hurdles with a time of 47.02 seconds. This victory came shortly after his notable achievement of defeating Olympic champion and world record holder Karsten Warholm in Oslo.

Following in the footsteps of the Brazilian athlete, American Chase Jackson secured her third victory in the women's shot put event with a best throw of 20.00m. In the 100m race, Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme claimed victory in a photo finish with a time of 10.16 seconds, narrowly defeating American Kyree King and Italy's Chituru Ali, despite facing a headwind.
