Five-time Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah will not defend her 200 metre title at the Paris Olympics.

Five-time Olympic gold medalist Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah will not defend her 200 metre title at the upcoming Olympics in Paris, it has been revealed.

The 31-year-old has chosen not to compete in the 200m at the upcoming Jamaican trials but will still participate in the 100m. Earlier this month, Thompson-Herah appeared to sustain an injury during the 100m at the NYC Grand Prix.

She is the second-fastest woman in history over 100m and made history as the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic sprint doubles, retaining her 100m and 200m titles at Tokyo 2020.

However, she clocked 11.30 seconds and finished last in her season-opening 100-meter race at the Prefontaine Classic last month, where she appeared to sustain an injury.

Her last 200m race was in April 2023. She appeared to sustain an injury during the 100 meters at the NYC Grand Prix earlier this month, finishing in 11.48 seconds.

In November, Thompson-Herah parted ways with coach Shanikie Osbourne and appointed Reynaldo Walcott, who also coaches her Jamaican teammate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

The athletics events at the Paris Olympics are scheduled from 1-11 August at the Stade de France.
