triathlonMarch 9 - Sean Jefferson and Gwen Jorgensen were today announced as the winners of USA Triathlon's Elite Duathlete of the Year award for 2010, with Ben Simmons also among the honours.


The USA Triathlon Duathlon Committee and the Athlete Advisory Council joined forces to select the winners of the awards.

Jefferson was the top US elite finisher at the ITU Duathlon World Championship last year in Edinburgh whilst Jorgensen was the top female athlete, with the pair also named the 2010 USA Triathlon Rookies of the Year.

Simmons (New York) claimed two paraduathlon titles last year whilst also finishing on the top step of the podium in the TRI-2 Duathlon nationals in Richmond. He also claimed a world title during the ITU Duathlon World Championship in September.

Marisa Asplund (Durango) and David Thompson (St. Paul) finished on the podium at the 2010 Elite Duathlon National Championship, also posting top 20 finishes in the ITU Duathlon World Championship, and were therefore given honourable mentions by USA Triathlon.
