USOC(2)May 13 - The 2012 Team USA Media Summit, presented by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), will get underway exactly a year from today at the Hilton Anatole hotel in Dallas, Texas, with more than 100 of the country's leading Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls set to participate in the four-day event from May 13 until 16, it has been announced.

The event provides print, broadcast, online and photo journalists to gain full access to the country's top athletes just three months prior to the London 2012 Games through press conferences, roundtables and special television and radio interview sessions.

"The Team USA Media Summit provides a valuable opportunity for journalists to become familiar with the stories of America's athletes prior to the Games and we are excited to be bringing this event to Dallas for the first time," said USOC chief communications officer Patrick Sandusky.

"Dallas is one of the finest sport cities in the United States and conveniently located in close proximity to the training communities of many 2012 Team USA hopefuls."

The USOC has hosted the Team USA Media Summit each year since 1988, the year when the Seoul Olympic and Paralympic Games took place.

The host cities include Atlanta, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Houston, New York, and Salt Lake City.

At the 2008 Team USA Media Summit, 115 Team USA hopefuls representing 26 Olympic and four Paralympic sports participated in the four-day event held at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago.

Of these athletes, 53 had previously competed in an Olympic or Paralympic Games while 86 represented the US at the 2008 Olympic Games and 49 won medals in Beijing.

Headlining the group was swimmer 14-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Phelps and his coach Bob Bowman as well as leading track and field athletes Bryan Clay and Allyson Felix, who won gold medals in the decathlon and 4x400 metres relay in Beijing.

Also in attendance were six members of the 2008 silver medal winning women's gymnastics team, including individual medallists Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin,  and Paralympic stars Jessica Long, a swimmer who won four gold medals in Beijing, and Iraqi war veteran Josh Olson, who participates in shooting.

Details about how to attend and hotel reservations will be announced in January 2012.
