The 69-year-old lawyer, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), had checked himself into a hospital late Tuesday (June 14) after a routine health exam showed an abnormal heart rhythm.

But Nuzman, who is also the President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), is now confident that the problem has been solved. 

"Carlos Arthur Nuzman, was today discharged from the Samaritan Hospital, in Rio de Janeiro," a statement from Rio 2016 said.

"Specific tests showed that the irregular heartbeat has been reversed and Nuzman was released by his cardiologist, Dr. Mauricio Vaisman.

"Next Monday, June 20, the Rio 2016 and COB President returns to his regular schedule of activities.

"On this day, Nuzman will preside over the work meeting with the Brazilian Olympic Confederations to discuss topics related to the COB, the Rio 2016 and the Guadalajara Pan American Games.

"The meeting will start at 2pm at the COB headquarters, in Barra, Rio de Janeiro.

"The arrhythmia was detected during routine tests carried out under the supervision of his cardiologist on Tuesday evening, June 14.

"At the doctor's recommendation, on the same evening Nuzman checked himself into the Samaritan Hospital to perform more detailed tests, which were successfully concluded today."
