annecy_lakeJune 20 - Annecy's bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics took another blow today when it was revealed that the Kandahar skiing venue in Chamonix has been removed from the Alpine World Cup calendar.

The World Cup calendars for the upcoming seasons were revealed by the International Ski Federation (FIS) after its technical commission had evaluated potential venues.

Kandahar has been put forward as Annecy's venue for the super-G, downhill and giant slalom events for 2018.

However, it will now miss out on hosting Alpine World Cup events until 2015, in a significant blow to Annecy's hopes of winning the right to host the 2018 event.

The vote takes place in Durban on July 6, with the French city the outsider in a three horse race against Munich and Pyeongchang.
