Nardi was in charge of the development of the Athlete Transport System for London 2012 but has now moved to Scotland to work on the Commonwealth Games. 

Her key responsibility will ensure that spectator and athletes' transport is safe, secure, reliable and accessible, and that Glasgow and Scotland will "keep moving" during the 11-days of world class sporting action, officials said. 

"Adrienne brings a wealth of experience to the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee in our preparation for the Games. She has an impressive track record in planning and delivering the most challenging transport programmes in some of the world's biggest cities having been involved in a number of major sporting events," said David Grevemberg, the Glasgow 2014 acting chief executive.

"It is with great pleasure we welcome Adrienne to the Organising Committee and I have no doubt that her knowledge and experience will be a key component in our quest to stage an outstanding Games in 2014."

Nardi, who is originally from Upstate New York, has a background of extensive project planning and vast experience of developing transport programmes for sporting events across the globe, including her work at London 2012, she was also Venue Transportation Manager for the 2002 Winter Olympics and Paralympics at Salt Lake City.

She has also gained transport management experience from two FIFA Club World Cups and other major sporting occasions such as the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix and the NBA and Baseball All-star games in America.

"It's a true honour to join Glasgow 2014 as the head of transport, the role offers an amazing opportunity to be involved in something so important to Glasgow and Scotland," said Nardi.

"I'm looking forward to working closely with our Games partners over the next three years as we strive to provide safe, secure and reliable transport services for Glasgow 2014 that will also leave a lasting legacy for the city."
