Stuart MillerDecember 20 - Dr Stuart Miller, the clinical director of the MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine Course at the University of Bath, has been appointed as the Head Sports Doctor for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.


Miller is no stranger to the world of elite sport after he served as the chief medical officer for Paralympics GB during the team's preparations for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, where they finished second on the overall medal table behind hosts China.

In addition, he has been the national lead for Paralympic sport within the English Institute of Sport (EIS) for the past four years.

Miller is set to work full time in the position from July to September next year during the period that encompasses the Olympics and Paralympics and he admitted that he is delighted to be taking on the high profile job.

"When I started the Bath sports medicine course many years ago I had an ambition to be a doctor involved in one of the 'big Games' out there," said Miller.

"To have been asked to do this role is a real honour and a fascinating challenge that I am very much looking forward to."

Miller has a long history of association with the University's Sport and Exercise Medicine MSc programme and was one of the first students to graduate from the course.

In 2008, he became the first formally recognised specialist in sport and exercise Medicine in the UK while he is considered one of the country's leading experts in the field.

The appointment is also another boost for the University of Bath who have been heavily involved in the build-up to London 2012.

The Malaysian team are using the University ahead of the Olympics while the facility will also be the key base for ParalympicsGB ahead of the Games.

A number of tutors, students and alumni, will also be volunteering at the London 2012 Games.
