September 6 - Australia's Matthew Mitcham (pictured), the Olympic 10 metre platform diving champion, has revealed that he hopes to unveil a series of new dives in the run-up to London 2012 to help him see off the emerging challenge of Britain's Tom Daley.

Daley, 15, beat Mitcham at the World Championships in Rome in July to claim a shock world title and establish himself as a genuine gold medal contender for the Olympics.

It has forced the 21-year-old from Brisbane to reassess his training programme in the build-up to London.

Mitcham finished only fourth in Rome but did win a bronze in the 1m springboard.

But it is the 10m platform that he is looking forward to in London.

Mitcham  plans to keep his signature back two-and-a-half somersault dive with two-and-a-half twists in the pike position but upgrade some others.

He said: “I've changed a lot of things since Beijing.

"That may sound ludicrous given I won the Olympic gold, but the rest of the world is advancing quite quickly in difficulty and quality.

“I have to improve at an even faster rate, so this year and the next will be very experimental with technical changes and using a few different dives as well. I'm trying to increase my degree of difficulty.

"Hopefully I'll have that consolidated by the time London comes around."
