Norway’s Tiril Sjaastad Christiansen backed up her stunning qualification performance by winning the final of the slopestyle skiing World Cup in Bokwang, which is serving as an official Olympic test event for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

The 20-year-old had produced the highest two scores to qualify as the favourite for the six woman final at Phoenix Park, with her highest score of 90.40 more than eight points clear of her nearest rival.

Christiansen was able to better that total, as she produced a stunning first run down the course, which concluded with a left 540 mute grab.

She was rewarded with a score of 91.60 points by the judges, more than enough for the Norwegian to beat America’s Maggie Voisin to the top of the podium.

Voisin was able to score 84.60 with her first effort to finish on the podium for the first time in two years, while an impressive second run from Sweden’s Emma Dahlstrom saw her finish third on 81.00.

“I just had so much fun this week, the course was amazing, it's been very creative,” said Christiansen, following her win.

“I didn't really figure out what I was going to do before the training of the qualifiers, so I was really stressed out.

“But I figured it out and qualifiers went really well for me, I tried to step it up in the finals and that worked out great in my first run.”

The result gives the Norwegian a commanding lead in the overall World Cup standings ahead of the final competition in Silvaplana in Switzerland on March 5.

Christiansen now has a tally of 305 points, with the United States’ Lisa Zimmermann second on 224.

Canada’s Alex Bellemare emerged as the men’s winner, despite the 22-year-old lying in 10th position after the first two runs.

He was produced an excellent final effort to receive a score of 93.60 and displace Henrik Harlaut at the top of the standings and earn his first World Cup title.

Harlaut had taken the lead of the competition after the second run, with the Swede scoring 93.00 points, but was eventually forced to settle for second.

New Zealand’s Josiah Wells completed the podium, finishing the competition with a best score of 92.80.

America's Mcrae Williams remains top of the largely unchanged World Cup standings on 190 points, but Norway’s Oystein Braaten is just two points adrift ahead of the final event.

The snowboard slopestyle World Cup is due to be held tomorrow at the venue.

Snowboard-cross and ski-cross test events are  also due to be held at the venue on February 27 and 28 respectively.
