Slovenia’s Domen Prevc extended his lead at the top of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup standings as he secured his third win of the campaign in Engelberg in Switzerland.

The 17-year-old maintained his promising start to the season as he bids to dethrone brother Peter as the World Cup champion with a total of 305.9 points.

Prevc produced colossal jumps of 144 metres and 141.5m to finish in front of Poland’s Kamil Stoch, who won two gold medals at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Stoch leapt 143m and 141.5m but ended comfortably adrift of the Slovenian on a score of 293.8.

Stefan Kraft of Austria, a double World Championships medallist, took home the bronze on 283.1 points, achieved thanks to jumps of 138.5m and 138m.

"Unlike yesterday I had two good jumps today and I'm very satisfied with my performance and the result," Prevc said.

"I don't feel any pressure when it comes to the Four Hills Tournament, my team is great and they give me all the support I need.

"I saw how it was when my brother was winning one competition after the other, so this is not totally new for me."

It proved to be another disappointing outing for Peter Prevc, whose hopes of retaining his overall World Cup crown seem to be disappearing with each passing event.

He could only manage 33rd and now trails his younger brother by 400 points on the leaderboard.

Domen Prevc currently has a huge lead at the summit on 540, comfortably in front of nearest challenger Daniel Andre Tande of Norway, who has 382 points.

Kraft was able to make ground on the Norwegian after his third place and he now has 331.

The podium finishers in Engelberg are likely to do battle once again during the prestigious Four Hills Tournament, which gets underway in Oberstdorf in Germany on December 29.

The series, which forms part of the Ski Jumping World Cup, continues on January 1 at another German hill, Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The Four Hills will then move to Austria for competitions in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen on January 4 and 6 respectively.
