South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen carded a seven-under-par round to lead after day one at the World Golf Championships (WGC) event in Mexico.

The former Open champion went round the Club de Golf Chapultepec course in 64 to claim a one-shot lead over his rivals.

Key to his success was an eagle at the par-five 15th hole as he took command of the first of the four WGC events this year.

"I'm very confident with my driver at the moment," Oosthuizen said.

"Had a nice little cut going with it, just aiming it a little left and just swing away."

Three players sit just one behind Oosthuizen on six-under-par - Chris Paisley of England, American Xander Schauffele and India's Shubhankar Sharma.

Defending champion and world number one Dustin Johnson opened with a round of 69 and the American sits on two-under going into tomorrow's second day of play.
