Former champions England, United States, The Philippines and Chinese Taipei were among the winners on day two of the World Cup of Pool in Shanghai.

It came as first-round matches continued in the knock-out format in the Chinese city's Luwan Arena.

Spain beat Vietnam 7-3 in the opening encounter of the day.

Philippines, the winners in 2006, 2009 and 2013, then eased to a win by the same scoreline over New Zealand.

Chinese Taipei, who won the 2015 final, thrashed Albania 7-1.

Greece started the afternoon session with a 7-0 whitewash of Hong Kong.

England, the 2014 winners, beat South Korea 7-2.

The US, the winners in 2008, beat Singapore 6-3.

China "A" are not due to open their tournament until tomorrow, when they meet Estonia.

Bringing together the world’s best players in 32 two-man teams, the World Cup of Pool is one of nine-ball's biggest events with a prize fund of $250,000 (£184,000/€209,000).

Action in Shanghai is due to run until Sunday (May 20), when the semi-finals and final are scheduled to be held.
