Unipublic has signed a three-year agreement with Czech virtual cycling company ROUVY, which will run a series of digital events for the virtual edition of the Vuelta a España.

The 2021 edition of La Vuelta Virtual is starting this month and will continue on until April 2022, making it the second consecutive year that ROUVY has acted as the partner for this.

This partnership is set to run through to the 2023 race.

La Vuelta Virtual 2021 will be made up of stages from the 2021 Vuelta a España route in a digital format, featuring the climb of Altu d’El Gamoniteiru and the sprint through the Burgos neighbourhood of Gamonal.

ROUVY has chosen five stages that may be completed virtually at the same time as the professional in-person race - with these being stages two, four, six, 11 and 12.

Participants will be competing for prizes ranging from official La Vuelta merchandise to VIP visits to the in-person race.

"It is so exciting to be an exclusive, multiple-year, official partner of La Vuelta," said ROUVY chief executive Petr Samek.

"I am sure the fans will appreciate the exquisite and amazing opportunity to join the Spanish Grand Tour online with real training efforts.

"This way, we are exploring the new standard of interactivity for cycling events, teleporting the core battles of the tour to every hobby rider's house.

"ROUVY is a specialist in one-to-one simulation of the realistic feeling of being in the actual location while riding on a bike indoors.

"So, with ROUVY, anyone can fulfil the dream of being a part of the pro peloton and compare themselves to the best riders on the planet, even from home."

The 2021 Vuelta a España is scheduled to take place from August 14 to September 5.
