Japan booked their place in the knockout stage of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup by overcoming the United States in their second group match in Moscow.

The Japanese squad opened Group A with a 7-4 win over Paraguay two days ago, with the goals continuing to flow at the Luzhniki Beach Soccer Stadium.

Japan fell behind three minutes into the first half, but responded with goals from Masanori Okuyama, Ozu Moreira and Takaaki Oba to turn the game in their favour.

The US reduced the deficit in the 31st minute, only for Shusei Yamauchi to score his fourth goal in two games to give Japan a two-goal cushion.

A late consolation strike for the US saw the match end 4-3 to Japan.

The result seals Japan's place in the quarter-finals, with the team hoping to improve on a fourth-place finish at the 2019 tournament.

The Football Union of Russia (RFU) moved to the brink of joining Japan in the knockout phase.

The hosts won their opening match against the US in extra time and sought a second victory when they faced Paraguay.

A tightly contested match finished 4-4, with extra time unable to separate the teams.

A penalty shoot-out saw the RFU win 5-4.

In Group B, Tahiti beat Spain 12-8 in a thriller.

Only one game in FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup history has featured more goals.

Mozambique recorded their first win of the tournament in Group B's other match, with Figo proving their star player.

Figo scored all four of Mozambique’s goals as they overcame the United Arab Emirates 4-2, adding to two strikes against Spain.

All four teams have one win in Group B, meaning the final matches will prove crucial to determining the two teams to progress to the last-16.
