Lithuania’s Elzbieta Adomaitytė secured the women’s individual laser run title on the first day of the International Modern Pentathlon Union Pentathlon and Laser Run World Championships in Bath.

It was a superb performance from the 21-year-old Lithuanian as she triumphed by nine seconds at the University of Bath in the English city.

Adomaitytė, who claimed bronze at last year’s UIPM Pentathlon Junior World Championships, crossed the finish line in 11min 39sec.

Canada’s Devan Wiebe was Adomaitytė’s closest challenger as she placed second in 11:48.20.

The podium was completed by Britain's Alexandra Bousfield who came home in 12:05.50 for bronze.

The top five also included Greece’s Pinelopi Nika and Switzerland’s Chloe Vaucher who posted 12:14.60 and 12:15.20, respectively.

They were followed by Lithuanian duo Neda Dorosevaite and Anastasija Chafizova and Czech Republic’s Aranka Chalupnikova.

The performance of the Lithuanian trio saw them also seal the team title for their country as they triumphed with a combined time of 36:58.80.

A total of 12 individual gold medals in different age groups were split between six nations on the first day, with Germany claiming four, Egypt three and Britain two.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow.
