Ashwin reclaims top spot in bowling rankings. ICC

Off-spinner India's Ravichandran Ashwin has regained the top spot in the ICC men's Test Bowling rankings after taking nine wickets in his 100th Test match.

Ashwin returned figures of four for 51 and five for 77 against England as India won by an innings and 64 runs in Dharamsala to take a 4-1 lead in the ICC World Test Championship series. He leapfrogged compatriot Jasprit Bumrah to take the top spot for the sixth time. He was previously ranked number one in December 2015.

Player of the match Kuldeep Yadav, who became the fastest Indian to reach 50 Test wickets, climbed 15 places to a career-best 16th after his seven wickets. India captain Rohit Sharma (up five places to sixth) and Shubman Gill (up 11 places to a career-best 20th) have also made notable gains, while series player Yashasvi Jaiswal has moved up two places to eighth after scoring a half-century.

Jaiswal now has 740 rating points after nine Tests, with only two batsmen having accumulated more after as many Tests: Australia's Don Bradman (752) and Mike Hussey (741). England's Zak Crawley and Jonny Bairstow have each moved up one place in the batting rankings, while spinner Shoaib Bashir has climbed 11 places to 71st.

Australia's 2-0 series win over New Zealand in Christchurch moved them second behind India in the ICC Test Championship rankings, and Alex Carey's unbeaten 98 lifted him from 50th to 38th.

Pace bowler Josh Hazlewood continued his fine form, taking six wickets in the match, including a five-for, to take his season tally to 35 wickets at 15.31, second only to Ashwin.

This matches his best-ever position in the rankings, which he first achieved in February 2017. Despite his best-ever bowling rating of 864, which he achieved in March 2017, Hazlewood has never reached the top spot. Only Kapil Dev (877), Ryan Harris (870), Courtney Walsh (868) and Rangana Herath (866) have reached higher peaks without ever reaching number one.

Matt Henry's excellent first innings figures of seven for 67 helped him climb six places to 12th and pass 700 for the first time in his career. He is also sixth on the all-rounders list. Australia's Mitchell Marsh (up eight places to 55th) and New Zealand's Tom Latham (up six places to 35th) and Rachin Ravindra (up 10 places to 66th) are among those who have moved up the batting rankings.

In the ICC Men's ODI rankings, Ireland's Harry Tector has risen two places to fourth position, matching his career best after scoring 141 runs in the three-match series against Afghanistan, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 172 runs in the series sees him move up from 24th place to 22nd. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Zadran (up three places to 14th among batters) and Fazalhaq Farooqi (up 10 places to 41st among bowlers) have made gains in the latest update.

The Netherlands' Michael Levitt (up 17 places to 32nd), Bangladesh's Najmul Hossain Shanto (up two places to 33rd) and Nepal captain Rohit Paudel (up six places to 48th) are among the batting players who have moved up, while Bangladesh's Shoriful Islam (up 19 places to 39th) and Ayan Afzal Khan of the United Arab Emirates (up six places to 40th) gained positions in the bowling rankings.
