The International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG) Executive Committee gathered on 20 April in Rabat to discuss the progress of preparations underway for the next edition; the 2026 Mediterranean Games which will be held in Taranto, Italy from 21 August to 3 September 2026.

The General Director of the Taranto 2026 Organising Committee, Carlo Molfetta, spoke of the preparation for the Games, the new headquarters of the committee and the sports program. The Coordination Commission will visit Taranto before the opening of the Olympic Games.

In an official press release on the ICMG website, the Executive Committee announced continued cooperation with several partners, including Eurovision and the International Testing Agency in anti-doping matters for the next Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026 and the Mediterranean Beach Games Portimão & Lagoa 2027. The committee approved Solidarity, Culture and Education Commission as for the programme for the Mediterranean Young Ambassadors and new ICMG branding for the Athletes’ Committee was also approved.

Financial support to the 26 National Olympic Committees according to the number of athletes of each delegation in the MBG Heraklion 2023 was also approved and funding will be distributed in the coming weeks for the Paris Olympics.



The Moroccan Ministry of National Education and Sports, Abderrazak El Akari, was present at the meeting and confirmed that the ministry will support the next projects of the Moroccan Olympic Committee in all sectors and emphasised that Morocco is a founding ICMG member and has a vital role in the Mediterranean family.

The candidature process for the Mediterranean Beach Games 2031 will be opened to interested parties and the decision will be taken at the General Assembly held in 2025, according to the ICMG Statutes.
